This Privacy Policy explains how Witnessed (“Witnessed”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses and protects information when you visit our website, join our waitlist or use the Void. By using our website, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us. When you join the waitlist, we collect your name and email address. You may also choose to tell us your profession, which description fits you best, and what you are going through. These additional fields are optional.
Anonymous posts. When you post in the Void, we store the text you write and the time it was posted. Posts are not linked to your name, email address or any account.
Technical information. Like most websites, our servers receive basic technical information such as your IP address and browser type. We use this only to keep the service secure and to prevent spam and abuse. We do not use it to identify you, and we do not store your IP address alongside anything you write.
Cookies. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Your browser may store a small amount of information on your device, for example which Void posts you have already responded to.
2. How we use your information
- To confirm your email address and manage your place on the waitlist
- To contact you when early access opens
- To understand the needs of the people we serve and improve our service
- To keep our website safe, and to prevent spam, fraud and misuse
- To review posts that may indicate a risk of harm
We do not send marketing newsletters, and we never sell your information or use it for advertising.
3. How we share your information
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only with trusted service providers who help us run our website, store data and send emails. They may only use your information to provide services to us, and they are required to keep it secure and confidential.
We may also disclose information if we are required to by law, or if we believe in good faith that it is necessary to protect someone’s life or safety.
4. Data retention
We keep waitlist information until you ask us to delete it, or until it is no longer needed for the purposes above. Unconfirmed sign-ups expire after 48 hours. Security data used to prevent abuse is deleted automatically within a few days.
5. How we protect your information
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, restricted access and regular security reviews. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work hard to protect what you share with us.
6. Your rights
You may at any time ask us to:
- Give you a copy of the information we hold about you
- Correct information that is inaccurate
- Delete your information
- Stop contacting you
To make a request, contact us by replying to any email you have received from us. We will respond within 30 days.
7. Age requirement
Witnessed is intended for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has shared information with us, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. International users
Our service providers may store and process information in countries other than your own. Wherever your information is processed, we protect it as described in this policy.
9. Safety
Witnessed is a space to be heard. It is not a medical, therapy or emergency service. If you are in danger, please contact your local emergency services or one of the crisis lines listed at the bottom of this page.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date above. If the changes are significant, we will let waitlist members know by email.
